Calgarians consider Canadians a pretty patriotic bunch

Canada Day weekend is upon us and 660 NEWS is wondering just how patriotic Calgarians are.

So, we took to the streets to find out and it turns out we certainly think we are.

Proudly wearing a hat with a maple leaf on it, Carl says the best way to celebrate is with a beer (could he be more Canadian?), adding we do a pretty good job of showing love for our country.

“I think we do quite well,” he said. “Everyone enjoys this country; it’s a good country to live in.”

Gary thinks he knows why we love being Canucks.

“Our uniqueness in the world,” he suggests.

“I like the freedom of it,” offers Kel. “Do what you want and make it what you can.”

But what about first generation Canadians?

Scottish-born Jack FM morning host Dominick Diamond says in many ways, he believes immigrants are even more patriotic than born and bred Canadians.

“The things that strike immigrants about Canada that are fantastic that I think people that have been in Canada a few generations have forgotten about, whereas with immigrants it’s just so fresh about what a wonderful country this is,” he said, adding he has some big plans to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

“I paint maple leaves on my cheeks and dance until dawn.”
