Calgary mayor says Trudeau offered more assurances on Trans Mountain expansion

While a big deadline is looming for the Trans Mountain pipeline, Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he’s received more reassurance from the Prime Minister that it will go ahead.

“I met the Prime Minister last week on a completely unrelated issue and the very first thing he said to me was, ‘We’re getting you that pipeline,’ and so I’m pleased that these conversations are happening but I’d like to see shovels in the ground,” said Nenshi.

Kinder Morgan said it will pull the plug by May 31 if it doesn’t feel the project is viable.

Nenshi said it’s clear the provincial and federal governments are doing a lot to get a deal done, even as the B.C. government continues to try and stop the project.

Premier Rachel Notley also met with Finance Minister Bill Morneau Monday night.
