Multiple Calgarians leave pets in hot cars

The snow has barely melted, but Calgary police are already getting calls about people leaving pets in hot cars.

There were about a dozen calls on Thursday, including one involving a child.

Constable Jeremy Shaw said it’s not only in-humane but can lead to a very dangerous situation.

“So we say like don’t leave valuables in the car, so that should certainly translate to don’t leave your pets and God forbid your children in the car,” he said. “We have seen those cases where a car gets stolen and a pet or a child is unfortunately left inside and they get taken too.”

Shaw added the best thing to do when you come across an animal in distress is call 911 or the Calgary Humane Society.
