Airdrie boys raise $900 for injured Humboldt player

A small idea by two young brothers in Airdrie turned into a big show of support for an injured Humboldt Broncos player.

Aidan, 8, and Nolan, 7 decided to hold a bake sale to raise money for Ryan Straschnitzki and his family.

The Saturday event at the Nose Creek Valley Museum in Airdrie brought in more than $900.

Aidan says they got a lot of help from friends.

“They helped (with) all the baking,” he said.

The boys’ mother, Jenn, said the larger Airdrie community came through too.

“As soon as we got the Nose Creek Valley Museum, the Avenue Bakery jumped on board and donated a bunch of stuff for the kids,” she said.

Both Ryan’s mom and dad have reached out to thank the brothers, with Michele Straschnitski tweeting: “Thank-you boys so much!! You are as inspirational as anyone I’ve ever known.”
