A warning from Alberta Parks Avalanche Control after footprints were spotted on the edge of a mountain.
On its Facebook page, Kananaskis Country Public Safety posted a photo that shows the tracks on a cornice — the hard snow hanging over a cliff.
The post says if this one were to fail, you’d be looking at a 1,000 foot drop and it’s like having the rug pulled out from under you.
This time of year cornices fail regularly and it’s best to use a ski pole or probe to see where the snow starts to thicken.
