A crowdsourcing campaign has been set up to help pay the legal fees for an Okotoks-area man accused of shooting a thief.
Edouard Maurice faces charges of aggravated assault, pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm, following a confrontation with two alleged trespassers on Feb. 24.
RCMP said one of the culprits was shot in the arm.
Travis Dunn, who describes himself as a family friend, set up the account. He expects Maurice will face a sizeable legal bill as the case winds its way through the courts.
“I’ve been told of how much things can cost,” Dunn said. “I set this up because I don’t believe (Maurice’s family) should be left with this full burden.”
Since opening the account on Thursday, Dunn said there’s been a big response.
“I’ve had a lot of friends and community members offer to donate and help.”
The account has been set up at the Okotoks branch of the TD Bank (Acct # 8079-6142303)
Dunn said donations can be made at any TD branch.
