A new story-time program celebrating inclusion and diversity is being launched at the Calgary Public Library this weekend.
Reading with Royalty is a 30-minute presentation which includes a drag king and queen presenting a story, songs and rhymes.
The library’s Kristen Duke said they have been brainstorming with Calgary Pride on ways to connect and create inclusive spaces.
“This idea isn’t actually brand new, the idea of offering drag story times actually originated at the New York Public Library a couple years ago and just as an idea or opportunity for families to come in have different kinds of conversations and meet different members of their community,” she said.
The first one is being held at the Central Library at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The program will be rotated between different libraries once a month.
