Calgarians may have noticed a disparity at the gas pump recently.
Some people have reported seeing a wide range of prices depending on the retailer and time of day they go to fill up, with callers reporting seeing higher prices in the evening, before dropping back in the morning.
Gas Buddy’s Dan McTeague said this is not a plan to rip off customers.
“What it really means is that some are simply trying to recoup any losses that they incurred during the day in hopes of keeping their proverbial businesses above the waterline,” explained McTeague.
“Gasoline is a tough business to be in and it’s under that kind of strain that you’re going to continue to see these wild fluctuations always on the last 12 cents a litre which represents what it takes to turn on your pumps and be an effective gasoline bar anywhere in Canada.”
He suggests filling up over the weekend because prices may increase by 2 cents a litre come Monday.
