Calgary Grey Cup Committee to provide “western hospitality” to fans at the Grey Cup

There will soon be eight 20 kilogram bags of maple syrup-infused pancake batter, 3,000 sausages and several flat grills making their way to Ottawa for this weekend’s Grey Cup.

It’s all part of the pancake breakfast, organized by the Calgary Grey Cup committee, where some of Calgary’s biggest Stampeder fans plan to cook.

There will also be the usual hijinx that follows the committee anytime they come to town, including when they take “Tuffy” the horse through the lobby of the Metcalfe Hotel Friday evening.

The committee sees it as their job to bring a little western hospitality to the Grey Cup as they cheer on the hometown team.

Spokesperson Alexander Dubyk says 60 of their 70 volunteers will be making the trip this year and they couldn’t be more excited.

“Shania Twain is going to be the halftime show, she’s making a comeback and I think this is the perfect time for the Calgary Stampeders to make a comeback and show what they’re all about as part of the Grey Cup,” said Dubyk.

There will also be live music, spontaneous dancing and an appearance from the Calgary Stampede Queen.
