Flames captain Mark Giordano win prestigious humanitarian award

Mark Giordano, captain of the Calgary Flames has been named this year’s recipient of the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award.

The high profile award handed out at ESPN’s annual Sports Humanitarian Awards ceremony, held in conjunction with the annual ESPY awards.

Giordano was honoured as an athlete who demonstrates integrity and bravery while creating a positive impact on his community.

His Team Giordano program helps 1,900 students with physical fitness, academics and positive behaviour.

Team Giordano received $25,000 from ESPN for the nomination and will receive an additional $75,000 because of the award win.
