Closing arguments expected in Saretzky triple murder trial

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The Crown and defence will get one final chance to make their cases Monday in the triple murder trial of an Alberta man accused of killing a father and his little girl.

The jury in the trial of Derek Saretzky has been subjected to weeks of horrific evidence related to the deaths of two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, her 27-year-old father, Terry Blanchette, and the murder of 69-year-old Hanne Meketech five days earlier in September, 2015.

The murders all occurred in the small close-knit community known as the Crowsnest Pass in southwestern Alberta.

The jury has heard video confessions made by Saretzky related to all three cases.

The Crown has suggested the Meketech death was a dry run for the attack on Blanchette.

Justice William Tilleman is expected to give his instructions to the jury Tuesday which will then begin deliberations on Saretzky’s fate.
