Cannabis and Hemp Expo lights up Stampede Park

With legalization on the horizon the hype around the cannabis industry is growing, and that was evident at the Calgary Cannabis and Hemp Expo at Stampede Park on Sunday.

Everything from bongs to vaporizers to papers were on sale, but there were also some fancier items that users may want to consider after legalization, such as a CO2 extractor to make oils. Jim Durward with Airmid Botanical Harvesters says this is the future.

“Nowadays, I believe it to be about whole plant economics. You’ve got to use the whole plant. The way it works nowadays is that everybody’s focused on bud, but you can’t have bud unless you’ve got a bunch of trim. And that trim typically ends up in the garbage, but there’s a whole bunch of canabanoids in that trim,” he said.

For Peter, who is with an extract and apparel company, the expo helps with marketing and he’d like to see more access.

“I’d like to see some of our products get into the hands of whoever needs it, with ease.”

Beyond the consumption methods, are ways to grow your own cannabis at home. Jay Bali with Sigma Advanced Innovation is making smart grow boxes that simplifies the sometimes complicated process of growing.

“This is the perfect unit, self-contained for people to put in their garage, put in their shed, in their house, to be able to grow their own supply. At the cost, you get a return on your investment in about six months and then after that, everything is your own weed and your own profit,” he said.

Bali believes the majority of people will use this method after legalization because it’s easier to get a hold of and they know what’s in the marijuana.
