Man arrested, three people seriously injured after Deerfoot crash

Police arrested a man on suspicion of impaired driving after he was checked at the scene of a serious crash. The collision on the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Tr. N.E. left one woman in life-threatening condition, and two others had serious injuries.

Calgary Police Service received several calls at about 5:15 Sunday morning, about a crash involving two cars on Deerfoot Tr. at Beddington Tr. N.E. Det. Andy Nguyen said the CPS Traffic Unit will take over the on-scene investigation and there are some initial witness reports about what may have happened.

“There was some indication that a vehicle was going in the wrong direction and struck another head on,” said Nguyen.

Paramedics said all three patients needed to be extricated from their car because it was so damaged after the impact of the crash. A woman in her mid-20s was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition, suffering from several traumatic injuries. A woman in her early 40s who was sitting in the front passenger seat was brought to hospital in serious condition, while a woman in her early 30s who was driving was also in serious condition.

CPS closed the road in the area between 64 Ave. N.E. and Beddington Tr. N.E. Officers are asking people to avoid the area while they investigate.
