2017 Polar Plunge sees over 100 Calgarians freezin’ for a reason

Over 100 Calgarians braved the cold to take part in the 2017 Polar Plunge in Arbour Lake.

Cold is a relative term, especially after those who braved the freezing water, including all four deputy police chiefs which remained in full uniform to really enhance the experience.

Calgary Stampeders linebacker Alex Singleton went with the “less is more” strategy – in just shorts and a t-shirt, but admitted his life as an athlete gave him a bit of a leg up.

“You know, I sometimes do it after practice, and people already think that’s crazy, so doing it for a cause is even better,” Singleton said.

Singleton admits, however, that it was a bit of a rude awakening none the less.

“I hit the bottom, sprung up as fast as I could and found the ladder,” he laughed.

Over $40,000 was raised for Special Olympics Alberta in Saturday’s event in Calgary.
