MRU professor says charges against police association president took too long

Was the wait between the event and investigation too long? One Mount Royal University Professor thinks so.
Calgary Police Association President Les Kaminski is facing one count each of assault and perjury stemming from a 2008 incident where he allegedly manhandled a suspect who was already in cuffs.
MRU professor Doug King told 660 News authorities waited too long to press charges.
He adds, transparancy is called into question when nearly a decade after the event we are still talking about it – especially when the initial complaintant was fully aquitted of his charges following his arrest.
“That’s in many ways, the beginning point of what we need to know. It is much too long from the time the individual who was charged with the offences and that he was aquitted of them to the point that the information was conveyed to ASIRT,” said King.
Kaminski, and Constable Brant Derrick, who has also been charged with assault, are scheduled to appear in court on February 7th.
