POLAR EXPRESS boarding kids cancer survivors

A very lucky group in the Kids Cancer Care community are embarking on a magical ride, Thursday.

THE POLAR EXPRESS” is boarding at Aspen Crossing Railway, in Mossleigh at 5:00 p.m.

With inspiration from the 1985 book and 2004 movie, with the same title, the annual holiday themed train will transport more than 300 pajama-clad kids and their parents to the North Pole.

“Oh, it’s like this magical dream,” Shelly Bhayana exclaims. The mother of three, including brain tumour survivor Sofia Hirani, 7, is thrilled to be on the train for a second year.

“The tables sort of face each other, like an old vintage train,” she says she’s excited to see the kids’ smiles with hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies.

The 45 minute train ride honours Alberta children affected by cancer. It’s hosted by Aspen Crossing Railway, Rail Events Inc., and partner Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

“THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride is about the need to believe and who needs to believe more than a family battling a child’s cancer diagnosis?” Donna Biggar, general manager with Aspen Crossing Railway, asked.

“Santa comes on to the train, and they’ve done a wonderful job, sort of, recreating the experience,” Bhayana added.

The journey to the North Pole is available to the public beginning November 25, 2016. The final departure is scheduled for Christmas Eve.
