Lethbridge man charged with breaking into home and sexually assaulting teen

A scary and random incident has left many in the Lethbridge area on edge early Monday, after someone broke into a home and sexually assaulted a young teen girl as she slept in her bedroom.

Lethbridge Police say a man walked in through a basement door sometime between three and four o’clock and found the victim sleeping.

He then took steps to prevent her from screaming and waking up other members of her family, before sexually assaulting the young teen.

The suspect was arrested a short time later.

Investigators say the two didn’t know each other and this is believed to have been a random crime.

Darral Gerard Courtoreille, 59, of Lethbridge is charged with housebreaking and commit sexual assault and sexual interference. He’s currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

Lethbridge Police say they will address the incident more Tuesday morning at the police station.
