Calgary rower almost finished trip across the Atlantic

A Calgarian rowing across the Atlantic could reach France this weekend, well ahead of schedule.

Laval St. Germain left Halifax in mid-June and had expected the journey to take at least three months.

St. Germain tells 660 News the conditions so far have been in his favour.

“What’s happened is that I’ve had incredibly good winds,” he said. “At the start of the trip I got stuck in east winds and a few days I had to be an anchor so I don’t drift backwards, but I’ve had weeks of west winds.”

The ‘Confront Cancer Ocean Row’ has not been without challenges, but St. Germain says it’s worth it to raise money for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

If all goes according to plan, St. Germain expects to make landfall in the city of Brest in northwestern France Saturday night.
