Author offers a new look inside the world of dolphins

If you love dolphins, you’ll likely want to check out a new book from Canadian author Susan Casey.

The New York Times best-selling author of The Devil’s Teeth and The Wave spent two years travelling the world, researching her new novel Voices in the Ocean: A Journey Into the Wild and Haunting World of Dolphins.

Casey says she had heard stories about transcendent experiences with the creatures but only started researching when she had her own encounter.

“At a particularly emotionally fragile time in my life I had a swim by myself, in sort of precarious conditions, and a pod of spinner dolphins came and surrounded me and it was such an unusual encounter, it really stuck with me, it really affected me,” says Casey.

She says once you start researching dolphins it’s hard to stop because there’s no shortage of unbelievable science and mystery surrounding them.

Casey is an award-winning journalist, the former editor-in-chief of O Magazine, who now lives in Maui.
