Former Flame Sergei Makarov named to 2016 Hockey Hall of Fame class

Former Flame and two-time Olympic gold medalist Sergei Makarov is headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The 58-year-old was named to the 2016 class, which includes Eric Lindros, the late Pat Quinn and goaltender Rogie Vachon.

Makarov won the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year at the age of 31 in 1990. That season, he had 86 points in 80 games with the Flames. His last season in Calgary was 1992-1993. He would then go to play for the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.

For Lindros, the announcement was said by many pundits to be overdue. He rung up 372 goals and 865 points in 760 NHL games. Lindros won the Hart Trophy in 1994, totalling 29 goals and 70 points in 46 games that season. His career 1.14 points per game ranks 19th all-time.

Quinn was a two-time Jack Adams Trophy winner as the league’s top coach, while Vachon was the 1968 Vezina Trophy winner.
