Alberta begins posting salaries of high-earning board, agency members

The Alberta government is going ahead with its next round of salary disclosures, this time for high earners on about 150 agencies, boards and commissions.

From now until the end of the month, they will be required to publicly disclose salaries for employees who earn more than $125,000 a year in total compensation.

Early numbers show that four senior members in just one branch of the Alberta Innovates research and development corporation have been earning a combined income of more than $1 million a year.

The four branches of Alberta Innovates are being amalgamated into one organization.

Finance Minister Joe Ceci says the government is bringing in a grid for salaries on oards and commissions benchmarked to similar positions in the public service.

He says salary disclosures are critical so that Albertans can be assured their money is being properly spent.
