Police charge nearly 30 in sex trade operation

Twenty-seven people are now facing charges after a sex trade sting by Calgary police.

The force received numerous complaints about public prostitution in the areas of 15th Avenue and 2nd St. S.W. as well as 19th Avenue and 48th St. S.E. late last month.

Police say the point of the investigation was not only to reduce illegal activity, but also connect with sex trade workers and help them in any way they can.

As a result, 27 people have been charged with unlawfully communicating with any person for the purpose of obtaining sexual services.

There were also summonses for traffic-related offences and almost 20 warrants on unrelated Criminal Code charges were executed.

More to come.
