Local sport receives $250,000 boost from Scotiabank

Children in southeast Calgary have a new sports pad, thanks in part to a $180,000 donation from Scotiabank.

A couple of hometown heroes and Olympic medallists were on hand to host the first game on the pad, located at the YMCA at the South Health Campus.

Cassie Campbell-Pascall and Kelly Bechard joined local youth to celebrate the opening and spoke to kids and parents who will benefit from the facility.

The space will be able to host sports like floor hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball and badminton.

Scotiabank’s Senior Vice-President of the Prairie region, Laurie Stang, said they were excited to work with the YMCA Calgary on the project.

“We like to be out with the community and show the support that we have,” Stang said. “This one is all about youth; the young people of today will be our leaders of tomorrow.”

They are also pledging up to an additional $70,000, donating an extra $5 for every video share, favourite or retweet through their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
