Watch Live: CityNews at Six Calgary

Calgarians can drop off yard waste for free at landfills

If you’re planning on taking advantage of the nice weather this weekend by doing some spring yard work, the city has some good news.

Yard waste can be dropped off for free at city landfills, to be given a second life as compost.

From April 1 to May 29, fees will be waived for residential loads of leaves, branches, plants and other garden material.

The city asks you make sure your load only contains leaves, branches and plants — no sod.

Residents are also encouraged to leave the waste either loose or put in a paper yard waste bag, and secure it before transporting.

The Spyhill Landfill (69 St & 112 Ave NW), East Calgary Landfill (17 Ave and 68 Street SE), and Shepard Landfill (114 Ave and 86 St SE) are open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
