Musicians and hockey legends preparing for Juno Cup

Musicians and hockey legends are preparing for the Juno Cup, happening Friday night at the Max Bell Arena.

Nominees for Sunday’s Juno Awards are dropping their microphones and instruments for the fundraiser, MusiCounts.

The players in the game took part in a bit of shinny practice on Thursday.

One of the nominees lacing up skates is Luke Doucet, from folk-rock band Whitehorse.

Doucet says he may be a bit rusty on the ice.

“In fact, I haven’t played hockey since the last time I played Juno Cup three years ago, I haven’t been on skates. When I was a kid I played with the North Winnipeg Suns for a couple of years, so I played as seriously as a 12 year old can play. But other than that, I don’t played much.”

Also, given his position on the ice for the game, it should be interesting.

“I’m playing with the Legends, that’s the deal right? The musician goalie goes with the Legends and vice versa. So, I’m really there to get scored on.”

If Doucet’s goaltending is as unimpressive as he thinks, maybe the music stars will win their first Juno Cup in 12 years.

Some of the NHL greats taking part in the game include Curtis Glencross, Jim Peplinski and Perry Berezan.

George Canyon, Jim Cuddy and Brett Kissel are among the music stars in the game as well.

The game starts at 7:30 pm.
