Two killed in BC Interior avalanche

BLUE RIVER – Two snowmobilers have died in an avalanche north of Blue River, about two hours north of Kamloops.

Alan Hobler with Kamloops Search and Rescue says seven snowmobilers were hit by the avalanche yesterday. Two went for help and three stayed behind to search for their friends. — then they had some help:

“There’s a lodge up there that provides backcountry guides and I believe one of their guides went to the location as well and probably located them.”

Twelve people have now died in avalanches in Western Canada so far this season.

The deaths come one day after Avalanche Canada official Joe Lammers urged backcountry skiers and sledders to take special care because March is statistically the most deadly month for avalanches.
