Paris, Adele and Ronda Rousey top Canadian November Google trends

Events from across the globe dominated Google searches over the past 30 days.

The devastating attacks in Paris this month saw Canadians going online searching for information, asking questions and looking for ways to stand in solidarity. As news first broke Friday, November 13th, the top search questions associated with the terror attacks were, “What’s happening in Paris” and “Who attacked Paris?”

US President Barack Obama made headlines earlier this month when he rejected TransCanada’s application to build the Keystone XL pipeline, saying it would not serve American interests. When the news first came out, the top provinces searched included Alberta.

On the entertainment front, British singer songwriter Adele released her third studio album, 25, this month after taking a sabbatical. If Google stats are any indication, she has no shortage of fans in Canada, as searches for the singer spiked throughout November.

In sports, the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey shocked fans by losing to Holly Holm in the main event at UFC 193. Despite being the favourite, Rousey lost the fight and her title via knockout when Holm landed a kick to her head in the second round. Searches for Rousey spiked on the night of her defeat.
