Man in hospital after RV fire

A man in his 70s is in hospital with serious injuries after a fire in Rocky View County.

Just after noon on Sunday, Calgary EMS, along with Langdon RCMP and fire crews, were called to a rural property on Range Road 283 between Highway 560 and Township Road 232, southeast of Calgary.

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux told 660 NEWS, upon arrival, they found an RV, which the victim had been in when the fire started, engulfed in flames.

“He was able to get out of the vehicle on his own power and move a short distance from it. However, the RV was still fully engulfed in flames, and there were also some nearby compressed gas cylinders noted in the immediate vicinity that were presenting a potential danger,” Brideaux said.

The victim and bystanders were moved away from the area.

“Unfortunately the patient did suffer burns to his upper body, and had some significant concerns of airway burns,” Brideaux said. “With the assistance of a second ambulance dispatched to the scene, we transported him to Foothills hospital in serious condition.”

No other injuries were reported in the incident. The fire is currently under investigation.
