Calgary musicians support effort to get medicine to Syria

Some local musicians are getting behind the effort to provide medical aid to the people living in war-torn Syria.

They’ve put together a benefit evening called ‘Music for Medicine’ this weekend.

Andrea Wilson with Grassroots Refugee told 660 NEWS, health professionals in the region are having a tough time trying to get medical supplies over there and to train staff.

“There’s hundreds of doctors being arrested, there are bombings wiping out hospitals and because of the chaos they are constantly having to set up new medical points and even shift themselves around as to where they because of the war and chaos,” Wilson said.

‘Music for Medicine’ will be held Saturday, November 28 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Thomas United Church, 100 Hawkwood Boulevard NW.

Wilson added they hope to raise close to ten thousand dollars for UOSSM-CANADA (The International Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations.)

The fundraiser includes a silent auction and a local cafe will be onside selling refreshments in support of the event.

You can find tickets at http://grassroots-refugee.blogspot.ca. They are $20.00 per person or $25.00 at the door.
