Successful summer for tourism in Canmore and Banff

Canmore is on pace to break tourism records in 2015.

Through the first eight months of the year, the mountain town reached a new record of overnight visitors, with the greatest increase over the summer months.

The Canmore Hotel and Lodging Association says occupancy rates from June to August increased nine per cent year over year, and that there was a jump in summer occupancy for condos and suites.

Parks Canada says more people are taking a trip to Banff National Park as well, with attendance jumping 11-per cent from last year.

Officials say they continue to see a strong base of visitors from Alberta, with about 65-per cent of guests making the trip from Calgary.
