Gluttony for good: Pizza Pigout returns to YYC

Want to schmooze with some local celebrities over some crispy crust and melting cheese?

One week from now, upwards of 500 pies will be strewn across Cowboys, and if you pay $50, you can eat as much as you want.

It’s the 13th year for the Pizza Pigout, and Organizer Eric Francis explains, you’ll be leaving behind your diet for some great charities: KidSport Calgary, the You Can Play Project, and the Big Give.

All three help underprivileged kids play sports.

“Last year we raised $150,000 in one night of gluttony, so shockingly proud. I never imagined this would mushroom to this point, pardon the pun, when we’ve got a couple hundred of the biggest names in this city,” he said.

Some of those famous faces include: Calgary Flames Coach Bob Hartley, Stampeder Bo Levi Mitchell, and beloved children’s entertainer, Buckshot.

There are also some unique silent auction items to bid on.

“When Phil Mickelson was in town, I got him to autograph a putter of his — that would be a pretty nice keepsake for some people. (Calgary Flames President) Brian Burke has donated, once again, the Brian Burke experience: you get to spend the morning with him at practice, he’ll take you through the dressing room, introduce you to all the players, then you get his tickets to the game that night. You know, we’ve got experiences to go meet and greet the Dallas Cowboys,” Francis said. “We’ve got dozens and dozens of lesser auction items that won’t cost you an arm and a leg: Flames jerseys autographed, sticks autographed.”

The event happens Wednesday, October 21.
