Public confidence in AB’s economy continues to fall

A new poll commissioned by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers suggests concern over the future of the Alberta economy is on the rise.

The survey also reveals 92 per cent of Albertans believe the government has a responsibility to do a better job promoting the oil and gas industry.

For the past two months, CAPP has been tracking the pulse of Albertans.

Spokesperson Chelsie Klassen says an ever growing number of people are worried about the province’s economic future.

“We went from 62 per cent of Albertans thought that the economy was in good shape in July, and now we’re down to a recent poll just this past September 22, we actually got the data in, and it’s looking at about 43 per cent of Albertans think that the economy is in good stead,” she said.

More than 30 per cent also believe the economy is going to worsen in the next 12 months.

Not only is investment and drilling activity down, CAPP now puts job losses so far this year in the industry at 36,000.
