Grizzly bear charges at ATV riders

A man is in Foothills Hospital after a grizzly bear knocked him off his ATV northwest of Cochrane, in an area known as the Ghost Public Land Use Zone.

At about 8 p.m. on Saturday, two men were riding ATVs when they came across the mother grizzly bear and her cubs.

EMS say the mother then charged the riders and the attack continued until one of the riders was able to pepper spray the bear and the animal then left.

Paramedics found one man in his 50s suffering from minor soft tissue injuries, who didn’t need to be treated in hospital.

There’s no word on the condition of the other rider. STARS picked him up before ground ambulance arrived.
