Calgary housing numbers dip again in July

Home sales fell once again in July in Calgary, though they leveled off a bit month over month.

Sales were down 14 per cent compared to the same month in 2014, but still hit their ten year average with 1,995 units changing hands. That compares with a 17 per cent drop in June.

Ann-Marie Laurie with the Calgary Real Estate Board said the market isn’t as ‘doom and gloom’ as some may think, even in the apartment sector which has been hit hardest.

“Let’s put it into a bit of perspective too,” Laurie explained. “Even though pricing has come off a bit from January to this point, it’s still under two per cent that prices have dropped. It’s not the same sort of pull back we saw when we really went through the last recession.”

She added single family home prices are down only about one percent since January and the market for single family homes under $500,000 is still relatively strong based on supply and demand.
