Film studio looking for Mongolians in Calgary for movie

Calling all Mongolians: Cinelou Films is looking for you.

The studio is holding an open casting call this weekend for its feature film Burn Your Maps, which is partially set in Mongolia.

Casting director Rhonda Fisecki said they’re looking for a wide range of extras.

“Men and women between the ages of eight and 80, if they speak Mongolian perfect, if they don’t speak English, that’s okay too,” she said.

The casting call is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Evergreen Studios at the Currie Barracks.

The Mongolia scenes will be shot in Kananaskis and Fisecki said shooting is also just around the corner.

“The outside shoot dates for the movie are July 27th to August 28th and anybody that’s hired for a speaking role would need to be available for one to five days, depending on the size of role that they get,” she said.

As for this weekend, no acting experience is required and no appointment is necessary.

Burn Your Maps is described as a comedic drama about a couple whose marriage is struggling when their son decides out of the blue that he’s actually a Mongolian goat herder born in the wrong place.

The principle actors haven’t yet been cast and there is some shooting in Calgary that will happen, but that will be left to regular actors.

Those hired for speaking roles will also make at least $1,000 a day.

Cinelou recently produced and distributed the critically-acclaimed Cake featuring Jennifer Aniston.
