Calgary restaurant hit by hate graffiti

A Calgary restaurant owner says he feels disgusted and hurt, after finding hate filled graffiti on his business.

Someone spray painted the words “F*** Islam” on the wall of KOOB The Kabob Factory on 72nd Avenue southeast.

Owner Sat Khezri tells 660News, he got to work Monday morning, not noticing anything was wrong, until he was alerted by neighbouring businesses and went out to take a look.

“I was disgusted and hurt,” he said. “I instantly masked it with some garbage bags.”

Khezri says, he and his business partner are Muslim, and believes they were targeted because of the kind of food they serve.

Although he’s upset, he’s encouraged by all the support he and his staff are getting. “It’s been a huge outpouring and that makes you feel good.”

Calgary Police Hate Crime Coordinator, Sergeant Eric Levesque, says they’ll need some tips from the public to solve this hate crime.

“We don’t have any witnesses in this case,” he said. “As far as I know, we don’t have and CCTV photos of any suspects.”
