Alberta election sees highest voter turnout in decades

It looks like the stories of long lines and packed polling stations Tuesday were part of the biggest voter turnout in 22 years.

Unofficial calculations from 660News pegs turnout across Alberta at about 59 per cent.

That would put this vote as the highest since 1993, when 60 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots.

In 2012, when Alison Redford won for the Progressive Conservatives, just over 54 percent of the province voted.

The lowest voter turnout in recent years was in 2008, when just over 40 per cent cast ballots.
