Boy, 10, dead, mother critical, 3 other children serious after Toronto fire

TORONTO – A 10-year-old boy has died and his mother is in critical condition after a townhouse fire in east Toronto on Saturday morning.

Three other children were also taken to hospital. Toronto Community Housing says the survivors were seriously injured and are “fighting for their lives.”

The home was reportedly engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived just before six o’clock.

The housing authority says it appears smoke detectors in the home were working.

Toronto Fire says a family lived in the home and the father wasn’t injured.

The Ontario fire marshal is investigating.
