Airdrie company facing charges after teen falls from roof

An Airdrie company is facing charges after a 14 year old fell nearly four metres from a roof in July. He was briefly hospitalized but will be okay.

Vital Contracting Ltd. and its operators face charges under the Employment Standards and Occupational Health and Safety codes.

The charges include:

Inappropriately employing a person under the age of 15 years;

Failure to keep employment records;

Failing to ensure the health and safety of the worker;

Failing to train the worker in fall protection;

Failing to develop a fall protection plan; and

Failing to provide the worker with competent, direct supervision.

The company could be fined up to $100,000 and each individual could face a $50,000 fine.

This is the first time these charges have been laid under Occupational Health and Safety this year and the first time someone has been charged under the Employment Standards Code since 2009

Their first court appearance is set for December 19th in Red Deer.
