When a man was caught trying to smuggle 50 turtles across the Canada/U.S. border earlier this year, it seemed like a strange incident but officials say it’s not an isolated case.
Turtle poaching is becoming more profitable for smugglers.
The National Post reports demand is coming out of Asia, where it is seen as a delicacy as turtles are considered a symbol of health and long life.
Wildlife officials worry the trend for taking turtles overseas is growing.
