Flood affected High River couple win home in STARS lottery

A High River couple who had their home damaged by last June’s flood have now won a show home in Red Deer worth almost $1-million.

William Rader, and his wife, Tonya are one of four grand prize winners of the 2014 STARS Lottery.

William said that he almost fell out of his chair when he found out.

The High River man and his wife were holding the ticket close, and re-checking the numbers to make sure it wasn’t a mistake.

“I can’t even fathom, like it’s still unbelievable,” she said, still speechless, “It’s plain shock.”

The pair, along with their two year old son, lived in a trailer for two months after the flood last June, and they are nothing but grateful for this gift.

“There’s been a lot going on in our lives lately, and to have something really nice come out of it for once; it’s a good feeling,” he said.

William got choked up when talking about the state his home is still in.

“Things are somewhat back to normal, but not 100 per cent. We did lose everything in the basement, and we are slowly rebuilding,” he said “We were just fortunate enough to actually win a house, and do what we need to do now.”

The Raders say, they’re not sure yet if they’ll move to Red Deer, and in the meantime are focusing on a nice dinner to celebrate.
