Calgary fire crews battle Highland Park blaze

A single-family home is significantly damaged following a Saturday afternoon blaze in the northwest community of Highland Park.

Crews arrived at the home in the 3900 block of Centre B Street shortly after the noon hour, finding flames outside the building, which they were able to get under control.

However, Battalion Chief Allan Ball said the blaze did spread.

“We found some exposed electrical wires due to the volume of fire that was up in the roof structure,” he said. “I know when crews went back into the structure to conduct their search, they found one of the family pets, a cat, which is doing fine.”

Along with the cat, there are no other injuries reported as the fire was called by a neighbour and no one was inside at the time.

It’s not clear what caused the fire and how much damage was done, but Ball said it was significant.
