Art show to benefit the Calgary Humane Society

An art show to help the animals at the Calgary Humane Society wraps up in the city’s northwest Saturday.

It offers up portraits of pets commissioned by their owners or of animals waiting to be adopted at the shelter.

Artist Mary-Leigh Doyle with the show tells 660News one of the most striking attractions is a mosaic of paintings of 100 cats up for adoption.

“The piece became very representational of what the Humane Society does for, and with, the cats.  As the cats sold off the wall and the blanks started to open up, it sort of shows the hope and the promise that the society represents to finding those animals a home,” says Doyle.

There’s plenty of art left to buy at the wrap-up Saturday with proceeds going to the shelter.

The show is at the art gallery “Framed on Fifth” in Hillhurst.

However, the artists will continue to do paintings of pets on an ongoing basis that support the Society.
