Gunfire in Marlborough leads to property damage, no injuries

Calgary police are trying to get to the bottom of an early morning shooting in the northeast community of Marlborough Sunday morning, which thankfully didn’t injure anyone.

The original call came in around 6:00 a.m. as a break and enter into a home’s garage on Manora Hill, but then more calls came from the neighbourhood with people saying they heard shots being fired.

A vehicle with three occupants was then spotted leaving the scene.

Duty Insp. Joel Matthews said police believe two stolen vehicles may be involved in the case.

“When police arrived on scene we noted there was a stolen vehicle that was dumped nearby,” Matthews said. “It was determined after that, there was another vehicle stolen from that location, that is what the offenders fled inside.”

Matthews noted the residents in the home are known to police and may have some kind of relationship with the offenders.

Police say at least four people are in custody being questioned, though they are not calling them suspects at this time.

A number of bullet shells have been found at the scene, along with bullet holes in the garage and home.

One neighbour told 660News, the area is no stranger to crime pointing to a couple of murders in the past few years.

“In the last ten years we’ve been here there’s been a shooting at the same house,” Debbie said, who has lived in the area for 20 years. “There’s been other shootings across the way in the Marlborough area.”
