City opens affordable housing development in the SW

The city has opened more affordable housing units for Calgarians in the southwest.

Located at 5717 2nd Street S.W. ‘Lumino South’ is an 88-unit development, offering one and two bedroom suites for low to moderate income Calgarians.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Alberta’s Minister of Human Services, Dave Hancock were among those attending the opening celebrations Monday afternoon.

The units are part of a comprehensive mixed-use development that will include commercial, retail, and recreation space.

Rental of the affotable housing units at Lumino South is managed by Calgary Housing Company with a mixed-income approach.

The total cost of the development was $24 million via $18.46 million in provincial Affortable Housing Block Funding and $5.54 million in funding from the City of Calgary.
