Arctic air producing a number of record lows across Alberta

Baby it’s cold outside and expect it to get colder before the grip of the current deep freeze eases.

660 Meteorologist David Spence says record low temperatures have been established in more than a dozen centres across the province making Thursday, December 5th the coldest day of the year, with even colder conditions expected Friday.

People in many rural centres are waking up to temperatures between minus 30 and minus 35 not including the wind-chill.

Environment Canada did issue a windchill warning for Lethbridge , Taber and Milk River in southern Alberta because of windchill values of minus 45.

EMS are reminding people about the importance of bundling up before heading outside because exposed flesh can freeze in a matter of minutes.

Police report outside of crashes on city streets they have not had to deal with many cold weather related calls.

Duty Staff Sergeant John James tells 660News, the cold weather is actually one of the best crime fighters there is because criminals don’t want to be outside either.

The Fire Department reminding people to be careful when it comes to keeping warm, especially when it comes to using things like space heaters, which should never be left operating unattended.
