Fire destroys duplex in Auburn Bay

A massive fire sent dozens of people out into the street early Tuesday morning in the southeast.

A supervisor with the Calgary Parking Authority was driving along Auburn Bay Boulevard around 2a.m., when he spotted flames, alerting the people inside.

No one was hurt, but a duplex has been destroyed, and two houses on either side have also sustained major damage.

Fire crews are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze.

Battallion Chief Al Magwood tells 660News, heat was an intial concern.

“There were up to 100 people removed. With the wood and the way that it was blowing, with the smoke and flames, we evacuated down wind,” he says. “Ninety per cent of them are back in; the ones not allowed back in now, are the occupants of the four homes that were involved with the fire.”

Approximately 15 people have been displaced, including a man and his two daughters.

The homeowner tells 660News, he’s thankful they made it out okay, but they are still looking for two of their family pets.
