Runaway city bus creates minimal damage in downtown Calgary

People in the area of City Hall witnessed a bizarre incident late Saturday night.

“At approximately 10:04pm,” Detective Steve Adair tells 660News, “an articulated city buss was parked just outside of City Hall.  The bus driver got off the bus, forgot to put the parking brake on, and put it into park and the bus started to roll away.  It continued northbound on MacLeod Trail, crossing over 7th Avenue and striking some scaffolding at Rocky Mountain Plaza.”

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and damage was minimal.

“Just minor damage to the bus and to the scaffolding,” adds Adair. “The building itself was not damaged.”

And, what about the bus driver?

“What we have been told is that he was going for a coffee and he just forgot to put it into park,” says Adair who adds the driver will likely face charges.
