Several Calgary homeowners may be unable to re-build their basement apartments following the massive flooding in June.
Flood waters ravaged many secondary suites in Mission, Sunnyside and Bowness.
The Calgary Herald reports many of those apartments were only allowed to exist because they predated 1970 zoning rules.
On Monday, a senior planning lawyer told City Council, if the homes have to be structurally re-built, they will no longer be “grandfathered in.”
It’s unclear how many basement suites were destroyed by the flood.
