Spring wildfire season in full swing

Alberta is officially into the summer wildfire season.

Out-of-control flames continue to burn in the community of Nordegg in west-central Alberta, where residents were told to be ready to evacuate Thursday night.

Around 150 people were put on a one-hour evacuation notice as bulldozers and three water-dropping helicopters were brought in to fight the flames.

Warm temperatures, dry vegetation and gusty winds have created very high wildfire conditions in the Rocky Mountain House region.

Fire crews were also sent out to an out of control blaze in Whitecourt on Thursday.

In the Slave Lake area, new fire permits are not being issued and current ones are being suspended.
